Our evidence-based parenting classes are designed to provide you with the tools, confidence, and support you need to build a strong, healthy family. Led by certified instructors with lived experience as parents, our programs cover everything from child development to co-parenting, creating a nurturing space for parents to learn and grow.

Positive Parenting

These classes are for parents and caregivers. They happen in groups that last 6, 10, or 12 weeks. You’ll learn helpful tips about how kids grow, how to talk with them, and how to guide them in a positive way. Classes are in English and Spanish. You’ll also learn how to take care of yourself, handle stress, and build strong family relationships.

Next sessions: Aug 6 - Sep 10 & Oct 1 - Dec 17, 2025.

Fatherhood & Co-Parenting: Beyond Conflict

This 6-week class is for dads and father figures. It helps you feel more confident, work better with your child’s other parent, and build a strong, healthy bond with your kids. It’s a safe and supportive space to learn and grow as a parent. 

Next session: Oct 13 - Nov 17, 2025. This class is in Spanish.

Young Parent Education Program

This 10-session series is for any young parent under 21 years of age living in Oakland and Alameda, including those who are currently or who have been involved in juvenile justice or foster care systems. We use the Nurturing Parenting program to teach you how to build a healthy relationship with your child, use kind and helpful discipline, lower family stress, and stop the cycle of abuse. Parents also get one-on-one coaching and support from the community.

Abriendo Puertas/Opening Doors

A nationally recognized evidenced-based 10-session parent education program that promotes best practices in brain, language, math, child development, and using technology to help children succeed in school and builds parent leadership and advocacy skills.   Drawing from participants real-life experiences, family values and cultural strengths, this unique curriculum aims to develop parents' self-understanding as powerful agents of change to transform the achievement gap and improve the lives of their children.

Soulful Connections

A dynamic, 15-session skill building program that honors and respects the unique experiences, history, and traditions of African American/Black families. The program uses the awarding winning, evidence-based Effective Black Parenting curriculum that is guided by African proverbs to connect the values and cultural roots of program content and Black excellence. It is designed to support African American/Black parents in raising proud, confident, and healthy children (ages 0-18). 

 Parenting Workshops

We are available to partner with you to bring classes to your community tailored to your specific needs. Topics can include positive parenting strategies, child development, discipline and logical consequences and stress management and self-care.

Our Parenting Stress Helpline provides free and confidential counseling, information to anyone in need of parenting support and access to 900+ community resources from our vast database. Talk to a caring counselor ready to help you with your parenting journey.

Finding Peace Within women.jpg

Finding Peace Within is a 10-week, skill-based support group offered in Spring and Fall for mothers who are experiencing symptoms of past trauma. We teach trauma survivors simple and practical steps toward living more calmly and at ease in their daily lives.

This award-winning group is an educational, online classroom environment and not a trauma-processing group. The group meets on Zoom and is free to low-income mothers in Alameda County. Sliding-scale fee is available for those outside the area.

The fall series is scheduled for September 18-November 20, 2025.

Weekly Support Group for Latino Fathers

Facilitated in Spanish by Parent Educator, Juan Cuba, we offer Latino dads a safe, no pressure space to come together for support and community around various parenting topics. WATCH A VIDEO

Parenting Workshops for the Community

Family Paths offers parent education workshops on specialized topics to schools, community groups and other agencies at a reasonable fee. Topics include:

  • Stress Management and Self-Care

  • Positive Parenting Strategies

  • Discipline and Logical Consequences

  • The Brain and Child Development

We can provide an individual parenting workshop or work with you to create a parenting workshop series that meets your needs.
